Caudal Epidural Steroid Injection
Service Description
A caudal epidural is used to relieve symptoms of lower back, buttock, and/or leg pain as a result of injury, inflammation of the nerves or compression of the nerves from a bulging disc. It is performed at the base of the spine near the tail bone and the epidural space lies inside the bony spine. The spinal cord and spinal nerves are contained inside a fluid filled sac surrounded by a thin skin which is called the dural membrane and the epidural aims to spread the injected drug just outside this area. The injection uses a combination of local anesthetic and steroid. The former acts on the nerves which temporarily blocks their function to result in short term pain relief whilst the latter decreases inflammation to improve the chance of longer term relief. Dr Rahul Lakhera performs caudal epidurals under ultrasound guidance. Email rahullakheramsk@outlook.com regarding availability or to book an appointment.
